Surgery for women

Minimally invasive laparscopy and hysteroscopy are often performed in an outpatient setting to treat conditions that contribute to infertility. Some surgeries, however, may require a hospital operating room.

Laparoscopy

Laparoscopy is the type of outpatient surgery in which the fertility specialist uses a narrow fiber optic telescope that is inserted through an incision near the navel. Laparoscopic procedures include:

  • Ovarian cystectomy: removal of ovarian cysts
  • Tuboplasty: Fallopian tube repair
  • Endometriosis treatment
  • Lysis: removal of adhesions
  • Myomectomy: Fibroid removal

Hysteroscopy

Hysteroscopy is a procedure in which a narrow fiber optic telescope is inserted through the cervix into the uterus to locate and remove adhesions inside the uterus. The primary hysteroscopic procedures include:

  • Lysis: removal of intrauterine adhesions
  • Correction of congenital abnormalities of the uterus
  • Myomectomy: fibroid removal
