hCG is given to men who have problems with the pituitary gland or hypothalamus. This treatment entails the injection of hCG three times a week (or every other day, if necessary) for up to six months. Periodic blood tests are taken to monitor testosterone levels and dose adjustments are made accordingly.
After six months of gonadotropin treatment, if sperms cells are not present in the semen, rhFSH is added to the treatment regimen (also an injection).
